Windows Update is a great idea, and when it works, it makes downloading Microsoft's myriad of patches simple and quick. However, if you have problems with Windows Update - well, good luck. There's a troubleshooter, forums, logs... It's even kind enough to give different error numbers between the log and what's shown in Windows Update.

WURT, the Windows Update Repair Tool, is an program that tries to automatically clean up WU errors. It uses information gleaned from the troubleshooter, forums, and other sources to eventually provide a definitive solution. In addition, WURT helps clean up a few specific virus and spyware objects that stop WU, fixes many IE issues, and even can fix some issues with the McAfee VirusScan Home installers.

WURT is currently in beta. I can't promise any support, nor am I responsible for any harmful effects it may have on your system. You are using this program at your own risk. That said, please contact me about any issues you may encounter - it's the only way I can improve WURT. There are currently know issues in which it will say that you should run CCleaner - as of .37 beta, so not email me about these. Also, WURT may require some runtime files - I will post those when I get a chance.
