PGI Workstation-class compilers and tools are for 32-bit x86 (AMD* Athlon* XP/MP, Intel* Pentium* 4, Intel Xeon*), 64-bit AMD64 technology (AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron*) and 64-bit IA32 technology (Intel Pentium and Xeon with EM64T) processor-based workstations with up to four CPUs running Linux/x86 or Win32 (2000/XP/Server 2003) operating systems.
Outstanding single-processor performance, uncommon reliability, support for most common extensions, and automatic or user-directed parallelization for shared-memory parallel systems add up to compilers that "just work" for users migrating from RISC/UNIX workstations and servers to 32-bit x86 or 64-bit AMD64 or IA32/EM64T processor-based systems.
The PGI Workstation compilers along with the OpenMP graphical debugger PGDBG® and PGPROF® graphical performance profiler allow a single user to compile, debug, and profile on the workstation on which the PGI compilers are installed. Executables are constrained to use at most four processors, and can be executed on any compatible system regardless of whether the PGI compilers are installed.
