Windows 8.1 is the current name of the operating system for computers and tablets as an upgrade to Windows 8.
This project is a change from the traditional policy of updates to Microsoft, which originally consisted of regular releases of "Service Packs" every 2 years or so, as it will be a major upgrade that will introduce several improvements on all platforms from Microsoft including Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT.
