An important part of the game is the heroine's insanity: Senua perceives the world around her through the prism of her psychosis. To more accurately convey the state of Senua, the developers attracted as a consultant Professor of Cambridge University Paul Fletcher; Archival materials on psychiatry of the 1960s, containing personal experience of people with early stages of psychosis, were used for study. Fletcher's ideas were used to bring disturbing and frightening details into play. The task of the developers was to create an atmosphere of anxiety, when the player - like Senua herself - would see in the most innocent images a foreknowledge of something frightening.
